Your Witness: Surviving a Medicolegal Encounter.

Friday, April 11

Thinking about the potential medicolegal consequences of your actions can sometimes be a very useful way to “up” your game; generally stay out of trouble; and, most importantly, provide high-quality patient care or rescue service. This class will highlight some of the near (or, in some cases, worse than near) misses from real-life fire and EMS scenarios that ended up going to litigation. An EMS defense attorney/fire chief/EMT (and guest medical director) will role-play several legal depositions and court cross examinations to show you what it's like to be on the hot seat and hopefully provide you with a little insight into how to avoid getting into that position in the first place.

Speakers
Steven Shahan, Currently Firefighter/EMT, but I have held rank as Lieutenant, Captain, Second Assistant Chief, First Assistant Chief and Chief. I am also an attorney specializing in the defense of Fire/EMS providers in medical malpractice and other liability cases. - Tully Fire District
