Technology Won’t Change the Fire Service Unless We Do: Sara Jahnke, Science to the Station

Wednesday, April 09
ICC 500 Ballroom

Technology in the fire service isn’t about gadgets—it’s about better decisions, safer firefighters, and smarter operations. From real-time data and drones to wearable health monitors and common operating pictures, we now have the tools to improve response, coordination, and firefighter survival. But innovation means nothing if we don’t adopt it effectively. How do we ensure that life-saving technologies don’t sit unused? What strategies will help departments implement them smoothly? In this keynote, Dr. Sara Jahnke will challenge us to think beyond the tech itself and focus on the bigger question: How do we make the fire service better, stronger, and safer with the tools we now have? Key Question: If we know these technologies can improve safety, efficiency, and decision-making, what’s stopping us from fully committing to them?
