Strategic and Tactical Operations in Residential Sprinklered Occupancies
This class will introduce strategic and tactical considerations for fire department operations in sprinklered residential occupancies. As more districts, cities, and countries embrace the residential fire sprinkler concept in single- and multi-family dwellings, these systems are becoming more prevalent, and fire department operations must evolve accordingly. NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R all govern different types of hazards and occupancies; the fire department operations should interface with each system differently as components, operational principles, strategies, and tactics for fighting these types of fire, including loss control measures, vary significantly. This course will introduce concepts from the International Residential Code for Multi-Purpose systems and Standalone systems following NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R and how operational tactics can vary to handle fires in these types of occupancies. As sprinklered residential occupancies increase in prevalence, operational considerations for how to fight these fires should also increase.
