Tactical Considerations for Research-Based Public Education
Modern firefighters not only need to train for and operate efficiently on the fireground, but they must also be equipped to effectively engage their local community. While some may feel it is not part of their role at the company level, their ability to have meaningful and educational conversations with members of their first due about fire safety could potentially save more lives than their rescue efforts. Historically, firefighters charged with participating in community events may have relied on outdated messaging shared passively through promotional materials. With the support of FSRI’s research and first responder resources, firefighters can use their research-based fireground knowledge to teach their community how they can implement fire safety practices. This class will highlight several research-based tactical considerations and share how they can be translated into public fire safety messages. Participants will learn how to leverage existing fire dynamics knowledge and additional resources to answer scenario-based questions.
