Marketing: The Key to Recruiting Volunteer Firefighters

“There are fewer volunteers" is a statement heard over and over. Although that may be true, the potential for recruiting and retaining volunteers is different today. Potential volunteers have so many interests competing for their time that fire department leaders have to develop continuous marketing of the volunteer opportunity. Also, department leaders need to sell the volunteer firefighters on the value of their energy and effort to assist in motivating them to remain active or increase activity. You don't sell the role of a volunteer firefighter with a once-a-year recruiting campaign. This class will discuss the various methods of marketing for recruitment and retention.
