Live Fire: Operation Mayday

Monday, April 07

This class will address the basic skills necessary to effect a rapid intervention team (RIT) operation: softening of the structure, airway management, and victim packaging and extraction. Using a crawl-walk-run approach, it will start with skill station rotations and end with live fire scenarios. Skill stations will cover airway management, victim packaging, victim drags and removal, and below grade and above grade rescues. Most fire departments view RIT as a “check the box” assignment. This class will change the way firefighters view that function to help prevent line-of-duty deaths. Students will get an overview of RIT operations and learn the benefits of a proactive approach.

PPE Required: NFPA-compliant structural firefighting pants, hood, gloves, boots, and helmet. SCBA and face piece will be provided.
