Liquid Co2 and the future of Fire Bunker Gear Cleaning
Friday, April 11
Our profession is becoming more and more aware of the efficiencies of extractor cleaning and the efficiency percentages of cleaning able to be attained. NFPA 1851 only mandates a 50% + 1 cleaning percentage for an average of VOCs and metals cleaned/removed from firefighters’ outer shell of the bunker gear. Now, with the added concern of the offgassing products and products of combustion generated by EV and ESS battery and storage systems, we must move forward to ensure that gear--all three layers--is clean. Liquid CO2 has proven to be the closest to achieving that goal.
