Instructors' Role in Preventing Friendly Fire Training Liabilities

Thursday, April 10

Training is one of the most critical events in your organization. Continuous and quality training establishes muscle memory, knowledge, and discipline for fire and rescue responses, creating a safer environment for the firefighters and community. Unfortunately, there are too many injuries and deaths as a result of ill-prepared training officers. Malaise and poor planning, lack of time, and sloppy drill ground execution of this critical department function have led to disaster. Determining the root cause of these events will prevent future events resulting in injury and death and litigation from the families of the firefighters. The cornerstone of a well-organized and managed training department is understanding the means and methods to prevent an adverse legal process. Carefully planned training events meet the goals of any legal defense to inform training officers and their staff by making them aware of their legal responsibilities and liabilities.
