Fireground Tactics: Store Fires (Taxpayers and Strip Malls)

Tuesday, April 08

Store fires are some of the most dangerous fires that we fight. More firefighters die in store fires per 100,00 incidents than residential fires each year. In many cases, the reason for these tragedies is relying on "house fire tactics." The differences between residential fires and commercial fires make this a deadly situation. This program highlights the differences between these types of fires and outlines tactics that have proven effective in handling them. Topics covered include store fires as death and injury factories, construction deficiencies common to stores, tactical differences between stores and residential fires, hoseline selection, stretching and placement, gaining entry/exit, cockloft fires/roof operations, trusses and other lightweight roofs, and cellar fires.
