Establishing Firefighter Rescue Training Programs and Prop Building

Tuesday, April 08

Unfortunately, many firefighters in this country are still not being properly trained before being assigned to a rapid intervention team (RIT). This class will reinforce that a solid RIT training program will increase the chances of survival for a down firefighter by providing well-trained and proficient team members. Case studies with proven firefighter saves and rescues will be discussed along with how to instruct managing a Mayday, RIT officer guidelines, and best practices for RIT operations. Firefighter rescue and survival prop construction, types of props, and prop safety features will be shown with a practical session using these props. The emotional toll of RIT deployments and the effects of PTSD for those involved will reinforce the need for providing this type of training.

Speakers
James Crawford, Assistant Fire Chief of Operations - Midway (SC) Fire Rescue
