Electric Vehicles in the Parking Structure

Thursday, April 10

The popularity of electric vehicles has increased in the past decade, and every community has electric vehicles. Now, we take these vehicles, which are difficult to cool and extinguish, and park them in parking structures.  Fires in these types of structures represent an enormous challenge for firefighters dealing with a maze-like structure, running fuel fires, low ceiling heights, high heat, exposure vehicle fires, trapped motorists, and ultimately an electric vehicle that is burning.  This class covers how to effectively respond to incidents involving an electric vehicle fire in a parking structure.  Participants will learn effective tactics to mitigate these types of incidents and the dangers and hazards associated with these types of fires and will leave better prepared to respond to electric vehicle fires in a parking structure.
