The answer to successful officer training, both initial and ongoing, lies beyond just the NFPA standards. Successful programs, while based on professional standards and references, are also tailored to the specific needs of the department. This workshop links certification training with realistic job performance training. Rather than teaching one specific version of officer development, this workshop presents a step-by-step process for completing a needs assessment and building the framework for a comprehensive officer development program. Participants receive guidance, practical examples, and multiple opportunities for in-class application. Students receive a handout and are given access to a comprehensive student manual (40+ pages) and many other resources. The workshop is applicable to both volunteer and career fire departments.
