This class will focus on large commercial structure fires. We will begin with a discussion about the dangers of fires in these types of buildings. Next, we will review the different occupancy types and how they could affect the fire and response. A brief look at fire protection systems and their capabilities will come next. We will discuss the types of products that can be found in these buildings and how the different storage configurations will affect the firefight. The class will conclude with a tactical comparison of fireground assignments between residential and commercial firefighting. It is critical that the students have a complete understanding of the differences between these two types of structures and how differently we need to approach fires in them.
