Advanced Open Water Rescue and Drowning Resuscitation

Monday, April 07

Successful rescue of a drowning victim is dependent exclusively on rapid water rescue and aggressive, high-performance resuscitation, performed within a 300-second window. This is a skills-intensive curriculum developed specifically for fire rescue personnel who have any potential to respond to an open water rescue emergency. It is especially geared toward members assigned to a technical water rescue team, dive team, or anyone enthusiastic about training in the aquatic rescue tradecraft. The course focuses on the practice of advanced rescue skills under the instruction of highly experienced open water rescue specialists. All evolutions are presented in a deep-water pool, where realistic hazards can be presented in a controlled environment. Additionally, students will train for high-performance drowning resuscitation. Attendees will be evaluated on their ability to effect an advanced aquatic rescue and initiate high-quality resuscitation efforts within 300 seconds.
